Anzac Day 2012 around the Geelong region
Wedesday marks the 97th anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops on Gallipoli marking our countries entry into World War I. There will be many moving rememberance ceromonies around the Geelong region which are expected to draw huge turnouts.
The Geelong RSL hosts a pre dawn service at Geelong’ Johnstone Park at 4:15 am followed by breakfast and a wreath laying ceromony at the RSL in Belmont.
Malop Street Geelong will host the Geelong Anzac Day Parade at 11:00 which marches to Johnstone Park where cermonies takeplace at 11:30.
Torquay RSL hosts one of the region’s biggest ceromonies with a very moving dawn service held at Point Danger overlooking the ocean. Thousands turn out to this very special occassion every year. The morning starts with a march from the Torquay RSL at 5:45 am followed by service at 6:00 AM.
The Norlane branch of the RSL is holding a dawn service at ST Thomas Aquinas at 9:45 AM, while the Inverleigh RSL is holding its service at several places around the Golden Plains. The first service is at Bannocburn at 6:30 AM beside the ANZAC memorial and there is 7:00 AM service at Teesdale, a 7:30 AM service at Shelford followed by a 9:AM service at Inverleigh.
The Werribee RSL will be holding their comemorations at 6:30 AM at the RSL in Watton Street. While Ocean Grove RSL will be holding a dawn service at the Parade followed by a later service at 11:00 AM.
The Anglesea RSL will hold a march from 9:30 AM which starts at the corner of Noble Street and the Great Ocean Road. This concludes with a service back in the Anglsea RSL clubrooms.
