Pick of the Week – March 12 – 18

With the long weekend last week was one of the biggest weekends on record, the Food and Wine Festival at Deakin, Bellarine Show, Apple Fair, Wooden Boat Festival and Barwon Water’s huge expo on Steampacket Place were only a few of the highlights. There’s a wealth of great things to do around the Geelong, Bellarine and Great Ocean Road region, this week, here are just a few.

Highland Gathering
One of Geelong’s most historic events the Highland Gathering returns for 2012, but this time in a huge two day format. There will be dance, bag pipes and all things Scottish including haggis, at the Geelong Showgrounds. Read More

St Patricks Day
Theres some great Irish fun around the town to celebrate St Patricks day, including Irish Murhpys,  the Elephant and Castle in East Geelong.

Irish Folk Festival

The pubs are not the only ones celebrating St Patrick’s Day, the St Patrick’s Primary School in Britannia Street in West Geelong are having a massive Irish Folk Festival. This annual event is huge and this year is no exception. There’s entertainment including the famous Leprechaun Drop, food, markets, and plenty of fun and games for all. The fun starts at 11 am on Sunday the 18th.

Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea

Head down to Barwon Heads on Sunday the 18th for the Festival of the Sea, this huge event gets bigger every year. Celebrating the sea the festival features art, markets, substainability ideas, food, music and the famous duck race where hundreds of yellow rubber duckies float down the Barwon River.  Read More

Colac’s Kana Festival

Murray Street and Memorial Park come alive with all the fun of the Kana Festival on Saturday the 17th of March. This festival features a huge street parade full of colour, music and fun with this years theme celebrating Australiana. Chilwell Primary School’s Food Fair

For a tasty treat on Friday night head to the Chilwell Primary School down the Paris End (river end) of Pakington Street for a wonderful night of food and fun.

Apollo Bay Community Market – Saturday morning

This market is jam packed with home made goods and fresh produce, there is craft, jewellery, clothing, pottery, soaps preserves and plenty of nic nac’s.

Torquay’s Cowrie Community Market on the Elephant Walk takes place on Sunday

The Drysdale Market takes place on Sunday and so does the Inveleigh Market
