We have got through the Australia Day holiday and summer is in full strength. Here’s some of the best the region has to offer.
The Davis Cup in Geelong
This weekend is all about sport in Geelong, we will be the eyes of the world with the Davis Cup being played at the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club. Australia takes on China in what promises to be one of the biggest sporting events ever seen in our city.
Geelong Multisport Festival
Back for another year the Geelong Multisport Festival is a series of events based around Geelong’s waterfront and Eastern Park. There are events to suit everyone from walks, runs, swims, bike rides the whole works. The events start on the 10th and go through to the Sunday the 12th when the 2.80.20 a 2 km swim, 80 km bike race and 20 km run takes place.
Apollo Bay Seafood Festival
For seafood lovers head to Apollo Bay for the Apollo Bay seafood festival. Try some of the freshest and tastiest fish and their famous crayfish. The festival takes place on the foreshore from 10 and there are a host of great activities including cooking demos, music a market and fun for the whole family.
If you missed the great Rod show at Queenscliff last weekend, head to Torquay this Saturday for the Torquay Motor Show. Run by the Rotary Club this show will feature hundreds of specialty and classic cars, plus lots of fun and games for the whole family along the beautiful Torquay foreshore.
The Western District Quarter Horse Association are holding their huge two day Sun n’ Surf Show at the Geelong Showgrounds this weekend.
Geelong Night Market
Don’t miss the Geelong night market in Johnstone Park, this is one of Geelong’s best summer attractions. The atmosphere is fantastic and there are so many great food vendors to try. There are a great range of market stalls selling an array of interesting products and plenty of entertainment.
Central Geelong Farmers Market
Get up early on Saturday morning and head to the Little Malop Street Mall for the Central Geelong Farmers Market. There will be plenty of the freshest organic produce you have ever tasted, plus baking, speciality foods like olive oils, cheeses and some beautiful flowers. There is usually a petting farm for the kids and some great entertainment.
Point Lonsdale Primary School Market
Point Lonsdale on the South Eastern tip of the Bellarine Peninsula hosts the Point Lonsdale Primary School Market this Sunday. This huge market feature plants, hand crafts, novelties, food and a good selection of organic vegetables. Get there early to get the bargains.
Bands and Shows
Legendary performer June Bronhill is playing Musical Mornings at GPAC on Wedneday and Thursday. June has had a tremendous career on both on the stage and these shows are sure to be full.
Sneaky Sound System
The Eureka hosts one of the hottest acts around on Saturday night. Sneaky Sound System play the Little Malop Street venue in front of their brand new LED video wall. It will be huge.
Minya Vineyard and Winery at Lake Connewarre (near Mt Duneed on the way to Torquay) hosts a great night of music in the Vineyard. Eucalypso will feature in their Minya by Moonlight series.
