All Ford Day

Geelong is a proud Ford town being the birthplace of Ford in Australia and still home to a large part of Ford’s manufacturing and design facilities for over 80 years and there’s no better place to show off the shiny blue badge than at the annual Kiwanis All Ford Day.

Held in February on the sweeping lawns of Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus on the outskirts of Geelong this event attracts around 1200 Ford vehicles from all all over the world representing all eras of the companies 100 plus year history. As you would expect there is a huge turnout of Falcon’s with models from all its nearly 50 years being represented from the XL to the latest FG XR’s and G Series, with all the models in between including the GTs Cobras and the like. Many other Aussie classics will get a look in including Capri, Fairlanes, and some of the older English based vehicles like Cortinas, Escorts, Consuls and Anglia. There are always hundreds of imported cars like the Mustang and other US muscle cars. Trucks including the F100 and F150 are also very popular with exhibitors.
There are many Ford models that look like they have just left the show room while there are others which have been modified beyond belief it’s amazing the range of models and uniqueness of many on display not forgetting the Lincolns and Thunderbirds which look as if only Elvis could drive with their huge fins and big over hangs.
The day is well attended by around 30 Ford Car Clubs from all over the state bringing their polished up and beautifully maintained treasures along for display. Many compete for one or more of sought after trophies on offer for the day.
The All Ford Day has been ran since 1991 and is a major fundraiser by the Kiwanis Club who work tirelessly to put it on each year and have been raising money for needy causes in the Geelong area since 1972.

Most years VIP visits from some of the V8 supercar drivers sign autographs for the adoring crowd and the day is the best place to pick up some of the many Ford Souvenirs- there are many stands selling models, T Shirts, and other memorabilia. One popular stand is ran by the Ford Discovery Center which is also worth a visit while in the mood for some more Fords.
The All Ford Day is a family event with plenty of fun for the young, there are always some entertainment for the kids and there’s sure to be a jumping castle or other fun attraction. The vast lawns (although very dry at the moment) are the perfect place to kick back with a picnic while admiring the beautiful Ford cars and listening to the bands. There are always plenty of food vendors and make sure you bring your pocket money for some great Ford souvenirs.
For the red team who like the other Aussie automotive legend Holden- don’t worry there’s an all Holden Day in enemy territory a few weeks after at the Geelong Showground.
