The Geelong Cup

The Geelong Cup is traditionally Geelong's biggest party, with what seems the whole town stopping to get down to the race track and socialize.

Thousands flock to the course, with the ladies in their latest frock and hat making it one of the most colourful days on the Geelong social calendar.

As well as the champagne, chicken and fashion their is time for some to have a flutter on the horses.

Photo: The Geelong Cup is as much about fashion and socialising as it is about horse racing.

  DID YOU KNOW?

The Geelong Cup is the biggest social event on the Geelong calendar, with thousands flocking to the corporate hospitality tents.

Many of the local hotels and larger corporations have marquees where partygoers can enjoy the day in style, some with live bands and DJ's playing music in between the races.

TAB facilities and smorgasbords of food and alcohol are found in most of the tents.

Many other people pack a  lunch and enjoy the races and the sights from a picnic beside their car in the members car park. While many more enjoy the races on the lush green lawn on from the grandstand.

Later on in the evening the party moves back to the pubs and clubs in the city, to celebrate way into the night,, then remembering its only Wednesday and its work again tomorrow.

The 2005 Holden Geelong Cup will be held on Wednesday October 19th
