2010 Ironman 70.3 Geelong Triathlon
The 2010 Ironman 70.3 Geelong Triathlon takes over the Eastern Beach precinct on Sunday February 7th in what promises to be one of the highlights of this summer.
The triathlon consists of a 1.9 kilometre swim in Corio Bay followed by a 90 kilometre cycle circuit which heads down Portarlington Road and climaxes in a 21.2 kilometres run around Eastern Park finishing back at beautiful Eastern Beach. The race starts at 7:00 am and should finish around 2:30 in the afternoon.

The 2009 event saw around 1300 competitors and there were over 100 teams. The event is actually a qualifier for the 2010 Foster Grant Ironman World Championships which will be held in Florida USA in November of 2010.
The event is part of the Ironman series which sees over events at Busselton in Western Australia and Port Macquarie on the northern New South Wales coast. The Geelong event is the second leg of the summer events.
The day is a great day for spectactors and Saturday the 6th also offers plenty to do for the visitor including a carnival atmosphere at Eastern Beach a huge expo village, food vendors, and plenty of fun for the kids including face painting, activities flow on into the Sunday until about 2:30.
The awards ceremony will take place between 2:30 and 5:30 at the Geelong Conference Centre which can be found in the centre of Eastern Park behind the Geelong Botanical Gardens. Last year the event was won by Craig Alexander from Cronulla, New South Wales with a time of 3:50:51 closely followed by David Dellow from Mooloolaba Queensland with a time of 3:53:02. about 3 and a half hours ahead of the 934th and last person accross the line coming in at 7 hours, 30 minutes and 21 seconds- an incredble feat of endurance by all.
