Jet-boats on Corio Bay

Geelong doesn't' appear to be on the 2008 calendar at this stage. We will update when if we find out any further information. Hobson's Bay in Melbourne have the event on the 9th & 12 of February and Williamstown on the 16th and 17th of February 2008.

Sunday the 11th of February will see the  Geelong's waterfront turn into a high speed boating coarse once again, with the high powered, high octane jet boats coming to town.

There were three classes of jet boats doing there stuff- Formula 1 tunnel boats, offshore powerboats and the fastest water-ski race boats seen in Australia.

With some speeds exceeding in the range of 220km/h, even the media helicopters had difficulty in keeping pace with these monstrous offshore racers.

Corio Bay is also home to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club's Australia Day Weekend Regatta which attracts thousands of visitors to the region.

With a fine day and calm water the boats were able to show spectators their full potential.

The larger offshore boats  traveled  a large circuit of Corio Bay and logged up over 200km during the event. Their large water sprays could be seen about 100 metres behind the watercraft.

The smaller Formula 1 boats used a very small circuit with lap times of less than a minute. The fastest of the F-1 tunnel boats reached speeds in excess of 200km/h.

The noise the boats made could be heard all through Geelong's closer suburbs. the high octane sound was similar to the Formula 1 Grand Prix held in Melbourne every March.
