Lara / Little River & Avalon

Lara is a quaint township situated on the outskirts of Geelong on the way to Melbourne. Lara has attracted much development over the last few years as new residents discover the convenience of living a country lifestyle but living close to Geelong and Melbourne. With railroad and freeways linking both cities Lara is a very attractive option for commuters. Lara has a substantial shopping centre and most of the amenities you would expect to find including swimming pool.

Lara is a satellite townships about 20 minutes from the city centre of Geelong, just off the Princes freeway towards Melbourne. The area is home to a big suburban population and huge rural area with crops and sheep grazing being the main farming industries. History

The townships of both Lara and Little River came into existence in the 1850s after the Melbourne - Geelong railway was established and the train made regular stops. The road to Melbourne was little more then a bush track that took hours to travel. A hotel, called The Travelers Rest, was established at Little River to service the passing travelers selling much needed refreshments. …Read more
