Portarlington

Portarlington is a base for many of the regions scallop fishermen which dredge the bay searching for these prized creatures.
The Portarlington Pier catches of snapper, mullet, garfish and whiting are common throughout the year.
Boat owners flock to the area for snapper, which feed in an area about 2 km straight off the pier.
There are grassy areas to the right of the pier which offer fantastic habitats for King George Whiting, while the popular ground dwelling flathead are plentiful throughout the bay.

Steele's rocks are slightly to the right of the pier, here, as well as getting snagged you may catch luderick which seem plentiful in this small area.

Portarlington is a great place for camping, a picnic or just a quite spot of fishing off the pier that is located only meters from the Grand Hotel and the restored rotunda.

Late in the 19th century paddle steamers began bringing Melbournian holiday makers, who enjoyed, and continue to enjoy the fishing, water sports, picnicking, camping and safe bathing the area has to offer.
