Torquay Map

The beautiful beaches of Torquay are only about 21 kilometres or 20 minutes away via car from central Geelong to the south. Torquay is accessible via the Surf Coast highway which passes Belmont, Grovedale and Mount Duneed or by the Anglesea Road which passes through Waurn Ponds, Freshwater Creek and enters Torquay through Jan Juc at the south of the township. Once the new Geelong ring road is complete in 2010 the Waurn Ponds route will probably be the most popular route from people travelling to Torquay from north of Geelong. A bus service also links Torquay with Geelong and other Surfcoast and Great Ocean Road townships. The world famous surfing beach of Bells Beach is about 5 minutes drive south west of the main Torquay Township.

Torquay has three major shopping and entertainment areas. The Surfcoast Highway is home to the huge surfing complexes selling surf-ware, boards and the like. Gilbert Street off the main Esplanade and ajoining Bristol Road are home to supermarkets, fashion stores and quite a bit of dining. Bell Street a few streets south is home to the pub and some of the towns more popular restaurants and cafes.
