Wallington Highlights

Being in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula’s rural belt Wallington is home to many of our regions farms, orchards and market gardens and a good place to get some extra fresh and cheap produce. Apples, Strawberries, Pears are just a few of the beautiful fruits you can purchase from road side stalls along Wallington Road and when in season there are quite a few farms offering you the choice to pick your own strawberries, the only problem is to not let too many end up in your tummy before you get to the cashier.

Wine is also a popular plantation with several small boutique wineries and a few well known brands like McGlashans who are located on Swan Bay Road and make a delightful range of their Wallington Estate range. Oakdene Vineyard offer a beautiful dining room surrounded by gardens where you can enjoy gourmet food including some of the local produce and their very tasty wines. Wayawu Estate on the Bellarine Peninsula offers tasting by appointment as do Fenwick Wines on Lings Road.

Wallington is home to Van Loons Nursery, one of Geelong’s finest plant farms with a huge array of plants from seedlings to specimen trees. The range and magnificent displays are absolutely amazing. The nursery is more like parkland or botanical gardens than retail outlets. This nursery seem to attract just as many visitors to view their lovely collection as shoppers.

The Wallington area is also popular with the horse set and two of the Geelong regions premier equestrian centres located around the township, The Wallington Park Equestrian Centre is on the Bellarine Highway while Koombahla Park is located on Wallington Road.

Wallington in recent years has become a hub for the regions theme parks. Adventure Park is the largest waterpark in the state and has dozens of rides and is so much fun. Another popular destination is the Grub Road corner which is home to Bellarine Adventure Golf which features 6 acres of landscaped mini golfing fun and A Maze N Games which is located opposite the golf complex which features one of the world’s largest timber mazes- it’s a whole lot of fun.

Just to the south of Wallington is the huge natural habitat of Lake Connewarre. It is home to nearly 100 species of birds including water birds, hawks, eagles, frog mouths and parrots. Part of the lake forms a game reserve where hunting is permitted for certain duck species during season. There are several spots off the Bellarine Highway including Bridesmaid Lane which are great locations for picnics overlooking the lake system.

Wallington is great for a day trip or two and an ideal base to see the rest of the Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast and Geelong region. Being a farming community it is fairly laid back and relaxing and there are some nice cozy places to stay, a great place to get away from it all.
