Jan Mitchell's Waterfront Bollards

There are over 100 of these beautiful Bollards along the whole foreshore from Rippleside to Limeburners Point. There is a lovely walking baywalk where you can easily visit them all.

They have been painstakingly painted by local artist Jan Mitchell over several years, with many the timber originating from bollards recovered from local piers that have been removed.

All of the Bollards depict the life, times or famous people throughout Geelong's History.

  DID YOU KNOW?

Much of the timber used in the bollards was salvaged from the Yarra Street Pier which mysteriously burnt down in the 1980's.

It is quite a fascinating walk along the baywalk trying to identify some of the faces- you might see our former Prime Minister John Howard, former Premier Jeff Kennett or an explorer, ships captain or local identity.

Artist Jan Mitchell has a studio in the Deakin University Woolstores opposite the entrance to Cunningham Pier and is open various times for visits, Her beautiful work is well worth a look.

Jan has also been working on a series of whimsical sheep which she hopes to someday have on display in the Geelong area.
