The Ford Discovery Centre

The Ford Discovery Centre is so much more than just another car museum – it is an attack on the senses. From the scent of leather upholstery to the hustle and bustle of the assembly line, the Centre provides a fascinating journey through Ford Australia’s unique heritage.

The Centre offers a behind the scenes look at how cars are designed and manufactured today and features thought-provoking displays that hint at the future development of the automobile.

It also offers a trip down memory lane, tracing the development of the Falcon and the automobile in general over the past 78 years.

  DID YOU KNOW?

Henry Ford III, the great-great grandson of his visionary namesake, took on the role of Patron in March 1999, and the Centre was opened by Jeff Kennett in April of that year.

Visitors will be entranced by the Centre’s mascot – a fully functioning robot who performs tricks at the press of a button – and will be fascinated by the colourful array of classic cars, interactive displays, touch screens and videos running historic  advertisements from years gone by.

The visitor is given an insight in how their car came to be on the road starting with the design process, through development and testing, to the factory floor and the virtual assembly plant.

The Discovery Centre also takes a journey into the future with predictions about new technologies illustrated by concept sketches of future directions in car design.

The constantly changing exhibits will ensure the Discovery Centre is a place that can be visited time and again with the certainty that you will always see something new. Current exhibits include the New GT BA Falcon actual clay model and the new Territory cross over vehicle.

The Ford Discovery Centre is open six days a week from 10am to 5pm (closed on Tuesdays).
