Geelong is situated in time zone GMT +10 Eastern Standard Time which makes it the same time as Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney (it also matches Brisbane and Hobart when Daylight Saving is not in effect)

Daylight Savings usually runs from the last week of October until the last week of March gaining one hour.

Without taking daylight savings into effect Geelong is 3 hours behind New Zealand, 1 hour ahead of Tokyo and Seoul, 2 hours ahead of Singapore, Perth and Hong Kong, 3 hours ahead of Bangkok, 9 hours ahead of Paris, 10 Hours ahead of London, 17 hours ahead of New York, 20 Hours ahead of Los Angeles and 22 hours ahead of Hawaii.

Geelong has experienced a few years of very low rainfall but we usually receive around 46 mm per month on average, with October and May being the wettest months.

Geelong’s weather can be hot one moment and cold the next and can change quiet dramatically to it is said that we can experience all four seasons in one day.

Being in the Southern Hemisphere our winter is June, July and August, which have an average temperature of 14.1 Maximum degrees centigrade an overnight low of 5.7 minimum. Or coldest day is rarely in single figures and our coldest night might reach around 0 a couple of days a year. Once every few years Geelong receives a very light snowfall which might last 2 to 3 minutes, but it dries up almost instantly. Early July is usually the coldest time of the year. The wind chill factor is usually lower than our temperature especially late June and July.

By mid September the weather is becoming quiet pleasant although our rainy and windy season is usually around this time. Spring temperatures average at 19.1for the maximum and down to an overnight low average of about 8.8.

Our Summer has a maximum average of 23.1 to a minimum average of 12.1 degrees centigrade. December is usually cooler than January and February but can experience some quiet hot days, in-fact days over 30 can occur in the last week of October.

Geelong Clocks

During the later Summer towards the end of January and into February it is not uncommon to receive several days with the temperature hovering around the low 40 degree centigrade mark, The hot days usually last for two or three days with very warm nights before heading into a cooler change. The hottest day record was set in on the 7th of February 2009 with 47 degrees centigrade being met.

Autumn starts in March and usually delivers the best weather, warm sunny days, with a sprinkling of hot and cold. April is usually also mild with late May cooling down as it creeps towards winter.
