Air V Australia Business Class

Well dosn’t get better than this.. six foot of space in front of me, a bed which lies flat, “would you like a champange before we leave sir” and a open bar where you can help your self and im trusted with a real knife and fork.  Im loving it..  Wonder if all battlers who got told to turn right are comfortable – who cares!!!

Enjoying the lounge hospitality

Well as if i didn’t have a low enough opinon of LAX airport allready. The airport lounge was acutally Alaskan Air’s and it was horrible. Plenty of 1970’s beige fittings and furniture, a few pieces of lettuce or cookies for meal  (or would you perfer clam chowder sir?)  But they had a bar, but there was a sign “Please respect our drinks policy and only 3 drinks each) well we didnt see that until about the 10th so it was ok.. Didn’t feel too guilty made up for the crappy food scraps on offer.  Glad I had the 99 cents servo treat.

The Last Supper

We thought we better get a snack before heading to the airport lounge. Better not get anything too filling as there is sure to be plenty of complementary beers and food to tuck into.  This 99c treat from the servo will do the trick!

Last Drinks*

Well we need to fill in a few hours before heading off to the airport so no better way than to relax with a few beers. We found a chain brew pub calledBJ’s which had a huge range of tasty brews to try.  Only problem to much choice not enough time.

The Beverley Wilshire

This place is flash, They filmed Pretty Woman there- not that I watch anything with Julia Roberts in it!  This hotel is on the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Rodeo Drive – so you dont get a better position in LA that that.  We went there for dinner. Prices better than I was expecting they were $45 steaks but no joke the best steak I have ever had (other than Stu’s Wagu BBQ that is) There were orchids everwhere the second shot is in the mens toilet no joke. The cars out the front,, well lets just say there were no Fords im thinking if it wasnt European and over $600k you wouldnt get Valet. You just wonder who the people eating here are? no familiar faces tonight.

Citadel Outlet Mall

This place was massive- so many shops and things were pretty cheap. You could spend all day here and all your money. This place is about 20 minutes from LAX so a great place to go shopping if you are in transit.  You nearly needed a car to get from one end to the other and there was every brand you have ever heard of here.  We went on the weekend which was so busy but called back during the week as we were passing and it was quiet pleasant and easy to shop.

Catalina Island

What a great day- this is a must for anyone going to LA and wants to escape the city for a day and relax. Catalina Island is about an hour of the coast of Longbeach. The trip is amazing beautiful blue waters and even whales on our trip. The island is magical, Avalon is the where the boat docks and the township isnt very big you can walk it in about 10 minutes. But there are dozens of bars, cafes and gift shops to enjoy. Found a great mexican restaurant for a few Coronas and the best Mexican feed I have ever had.   The Casino (which isnt a casino) is the main focal icon, it is a picture theatre. The whole island was pretty much owned by Wriglley the guy who invented the Chewy Gum in the early 1900’s.  Transportation is all by golf cart there are virtually no cars. We hired one for a quick hoot around town.

LA’s Farmers Market

This was a great place for a bite to eat or some shopping.  The Farmers Market had dozens of great food stalls and plenty of gormet foods, meats and vegetables.  We found a fantastic Spanish cafe and sampled quiet a few of their extensive range of Spanish beers- very tasty indeed.  There is a restaurant in the market called the Country Kitchen this was one of Elvis’s favorite eating places in LA.

Next to the market was a shoping centre come theme park, it was called the Grove. This place was pretty cool it had exotic building facias like you would find in Universal Studios. Cable cars running through the place and a pretty cool theme going on.  The shopping was pretty good too with plenty of the big brands like Apple GAP Nike etc all in beautiful stores.

Californian Coast

Ive been to LA 7 or 8 times and other than Disneyland (which I wasnt allowed to go to once AGAIN) I really havent thought much of LA, its been  my most unliked part of the states..  Ive been to most places in and around the city but never thought much of it, but this time probably because we havent had too much to do, we have kicked back and found some good parts. The coastal drive down to Newport was fantastic, the beaches are great and the scenerey quiet nice. There lots of great places along the way. Newport and in particular Long Beach are really nice places.  We stayed in Longbeach on the Queen Mary a few years back but that was only over night and didnt get to see to much of the area, when you get up close its great.  Marina Del Ray, Santa Monica are also really good. You can stick your Hollywood its a hole and the city is the pits, and Venice Beach well its full of drugged out freaks.  Things just go from bad to worse once you leave the horrid LAX airport which would have to be the worlds ugliest and most beige rabbit warren.   Probably a GPS helps too as you don’t spend half your time getting lost, you can just zip in and out on the huge freeways and get to where you are going- driving is confronting but it sure is fun.  Now im nearly a fan of LA- theres plenty of fun to have here, and im starting to really like it.

Vera Wang’s %$$## Wedding Shop

Well this is an hour of my life I will never get back.  That could have been 5 beers I will never drink.  We had to pick up a friend’s wedding dress from Vera Wang – she dresses all the ‘beautiful people’  Posh Beckham (how could I use her name after beautiful- YUK!!) Chelsea Clinton, thatKim Kardashian cow and theres even a Barbie Bride. Well was thinking it would be a simple go in pick it up and go to the pub, but no, we had to wait in the beautiful store for about an hour- bet they loved a fat untidy slob like me dirtying up there beautiful boutique!   (By the way its not the dress we picked up these were ones on the shelf- thats secret brides buisness!!) ……….. and no I didn’t try one on!

Our Beverley Hills Hotel

This place was pretty flash.. Leather and mirrors on the walls of our room. The feature tiles in the pool were Swarovski Cristal and there was a port hole from near toilet looking into the pool- no joke.  And the rooftop bar was a great way to finish the night off.. A few cold Sierra Nevada pale ales and a plate of sliders with fries  (they are three tasty little hamburgers in buns on a plate  -yummmeee!!!)

We stayed here last year too- so we are pretty much regulars, its a pretty cool place to stay if you are looking for somewhere in the Beverley Hills area and only 100 mt to Rodeo Drive  (Which we didnt even bother  go down)
