The new international terminal at LAX is flash, the focal point are some very clever video displays. The lift shaft is covered in a video wall that forms a clock tower that changes to huge fish tank and even a stack of bags. Opposite is another series of walls that show a themed video to match. Very stunning. The One Word lounge is great, not only refreshing showers but plenty of tasty food and help yourself to the extensive grog list. There’s a outside deck with fire pits and plenty of cozy places to relax before jumping on the plane home.

As we approach the Hollywood Boulevard and Highland avenue intersection we are confronted by a zombie apocalypse. Luckily they didn’t bite and there was a religious man fending the ghouls off with his extracts from the bible.

Downtown LA is in a bad way but new developments like the stunning Walt Disney Theatre and the entertainment district around the Staples Centre are bringing it back to life. The city would have been one of the world’s grandest early last century, there are some magnificent art deco buildings but they have slowly deteriorated over the decades. There are some amazing old theatres and hotels that are not in great shape but look as if they are just waiting for lots of dollars and some imagination to bring them back to life.

Lunch was at the Alpine Village a little bit of Germany in LA. They had a whole little themed district filled with all things German, a restaurant, grocery store, gift shops even a church plus a huge Oktoberfest celebration.

Another great pier, this one stretching out to a small aquarium and very popular with the fishermen.

We headed down to the seaside and visited Rodondo Beach for lunch, a beautiful LA day with plenty of sun

We made a quick visit to the Western Museum of Flight in Torrence not far from Long Beach. They had a small hanger with some pretty cool stuff that was worth a look.

This isn’t the original, it is long gone but it is the oldest McDonalds still standing (3rd opened) in the world and you can get 2 Big Macs for $4.44 what a bargain.

We are spending our last 3 days in the US in Longbeach California, we have stayed down this way a few times its a nice little piece of LA. The hotel is very swanky with funky music in the lifts, flash wine bars and very comfortable. The rooms are huge and theres a great view out to the waterfront precinct and best of all right across the road from the rock bottom brewery, huge nachos and great beer. Long Beach has some great old buildings with some gorgeous Art deco style
