Atlantic City’s funnel cakes

Not sure if it is a good thing or bad thing but Atlantic City isn’t as shit as we were expecting… It’s better than Reno.

But funnel cakes what’s going on ger..get some hot oil and shoot a stream of batter into it to form a cake. Then cover the fat ridden horror with icing sugar and a host of other calorie laymen items chocolate, cream, cheese and other assorted crap…

Last drinks at Rudy’s

Our last night in NYC so a few last drinks and kosher beef hotdog or two in our favorite NYC bar Rudys. Its a real dive bar, but its got great service, fresh beer, free hot dogs and a interesting assortment of clientele. Its a great little pub and is a must for anyone looking for a great spot for a beer in the Hells Kitchen district of New York City between 8AM and 4AM.

911 memorial

I was expecting a treacle covered Americanised memorial with heaps of “heroes, liberty, freedom, red white and blue and gun ho” But we was really surprised the memorial is very tasteful with the names the only words used, no american flag, no bald eagles, nothing. The fountains where the buildings stood are spectacular and really give the precinct a stunning and striking image. Only concern I have the barrier walls are only about 3 feet high with a 30 odd feet drop..I can see some distraught people jumping to the granite floor, as nothing or no one could stop you if you were quick.

Protesters

The wall street protest has swelled a bit over the week, it’s a happy carnival atmosphere with dozens of cops media and thousands of protesters. they cross all boundaries of society 15 to 90 and every nationality. Food vendors down there are making a killing…the capitalists!

Dakota building

Friday’s travel around NYC takes on a somber mood… The Dakota building where John Lennon lived and died (at the gates) and strawberry fields in central park.

The UN headquarters

This place was a bit of a letdown was expecting something flash but it was really just a ugly 1950s building inside..reminded us of the old Geelong hospital.

Security was hopeless…like a airport but my pants went off in detector..the Girl asked have you got anything metal n you..I said no..and she said ok come thru..

Best $2.50 spend in NY (other than Rudy’s beer)

Thought we would go on a journey across the east river on the historic Roosevelt Island Tramway…expected to pay $20 or more but no..only $2.50 and was free for us as we bought a $28 week long transport ticket, which has given us heaps of rides on the subway. So with that $2.50 we saved we will be back at Rudy’s for another pint of their tasty beer and maybe a free hotdog. The views from the cable car are spectacular and its well worth a trip for anyone visiting NY. Don’t expect too much on the other side, its a bit uninteresting but you have got the joy of the ride back to Manhattan.

Flatiron district

This area is pretty much in the centre of town. About half way between the WTC and Times Square. There’s some pretty cool architecture and another elephant
