After a few a burger and a few beers it was time to wander back to our hotel along the Bund overlooking the sea of colour on the river and its backdrop. The screens and lights on the skyscrapers come on at dusk every night and run through until 10 or 11 PM.
A stroll around Shanghai
We spent the afternoon strolling around the main retail part of city and the surrounding parks. The gardens are perfectly maintained and the streets are well swept and clean. There are thousands of people everywhere you look great prey for the dozens of copy watch salespeople who are easy to shrug off but every 2 minutes a new one approaches.
Fakes and bikes
We found the Apple Store and guess what they have the Iphone X on sale a few weeks before launch. It hasn’t got much craftsmanship, doesn’t work very well but it’s here now and cheaper than what the other Apple Store around the corner has. They even have a range of Apple Ipads, phones and watches that I’ve never seen. Lego is another big seller here, but it’s called Lgeo and no it’s not the Star Wars kit, it’s the Star Wart, Star Plan or Space Wars kits.
Bikes are the other amazing thing they are everywhere and the yellow bikes just like Melbourne are a virus there are thousands not hundreds of them. Motor Scooters are our the best, they drive everywhere road, footpath and obey no road rules. You use your phone constantly, go through all red lights and pedestrian crossings never stopping, giving way or slowing. No one seems to get hurt – it all works.
Who needs Bunnings
During our 24.5 km of walking today we visited the engineering district. Here hundreds of small stores sold hardware, tools and other goods. Some even did cutting and welding on the pavement. They all seemed to specalise in random goods one shop might sell washers and string, while another bearings and hose.

Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is Shangahi’s 5th avenue or Colins Street, home to all the international brands and a huge array of shopping. Being Sunday thousands were out for a stroll, we soon found ourselves a outdoor bar and kicked back for a few pints of Tiger while watching the people, cars, bikes and other interesting things going by. It didn’t take long to find a whole lot of new friends wanting to meet us offering great deals on copy watches, pens, shoe polishing, torches and even portraits of ourselves.

Insect bird and fish market
One of the more unusual markets we have come across. This one specalises in insects fish and birds. Crickets and other insects are very popular pets here they even have fighting competitions between crickets. The goldfish were incredible like nothing you can get back home and there were plenty of cute little turtles.. You just wonder how many will find safe homes
