Lunchtime- and what a tasty treat it is

Pub food is great and cheap.. and lager cold as long as you don’t choose the pump ales. pump ales are tasty but not chilled and have had some have been warmer than I have my coffee yuk! huge selection on tap at every pub, food menu similar to us with no parmis or snitchels and a few local specalties thrown including some tasty pies, bangers and mash and roasts with yorkshire pudding.

London Calling

….we are a couple of days behind on updates.. been to much going on..will catch up next quiet moment.

its Saturday morning and we are in glorious sunshine in London. The city is spectacular went down to Buckingham Palace and down to westminster, parliament building and westminster chapel are amazing the architecture and craftsmanship is mind blowing. the city is huge, so much to see and so much going on…. its starting to challenge Tokyo and New York as my favourite cities. You can see so much and without spending a cent ( or penny) just need good shoes.

Mercedes Benz World

This centre was on the Brooklands and was huge it had four floors of Benz a mix of dealership, art gallery and museum. Outside they ad several test tracks where you could experience driving many of the vehicles.

The gift shop sold everything from key rings to bears to the entire Mercedes Benz range.

brooklands museum

This was an interesting mix of cars, bikes, planes and busses. The complex was run by heaps of really dedicated volunteers, many so obsessed with he items they had some fascinating stories. sadly the place needs a big cas injection to tun it from a collection of stuff to a fascinating theme park/museum like the fantastic motor and technology museum in Auckland…but the jewel Brooklands has is a Concorde..and the collection don’t doesn’t get much better than that.

This Concorde…no 5 of the 20 made I’ve been on board and it is actually the 1st made by the English, I remember going to see this acual plane at Tullamarine in he early 70’s while it was tested on a world tour.

the ail and much of the fuselage of the Concorde was actually manufactured right here at Brooklands.

Not another car museum…

We are not done yet..and we are doing more than looking at cars, drinking beer and eating sausages and pies……Coventry is also home to the Coventry transport museum, an interesting collection all in themed settings.

British heritage motor museum

This was huge and flash the complex must have cost10’s of millions with a monstrous exhibition space, function facilities and even a driving course.

the centre had an amazing collection, with he best of British motoring and many prototypes or show cars including the pink ford thunderbird used in the thunderbirds movie.

Britain is expensive- not!

Sure the dollar is pretty good against the pound at the moment…but even still prices seem a lot better than i remember. This pub chain we stumbled on a few times 1.99 pound ($3) pints. ours are more than $8 food has been pretty reasonable too

petrol is one exemption about 1.70 pound a litre, but distances are much shorter.

Manchester canals

Canals were once the highways shipping freight between cities in much of England. We went on a interesting boat ride.
