Frontiers of Flight

Heading back into Dallas we come across the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Hobby Airfield.  It was only a small centre but they had some pretty good stuff including the Apollo 9 space capsule and a South Western Airlines 737 with the nose in the museum and the body outside.

It only gets better

Just when we thought we had tried everything this great culinary country has to offer, we find this Bacon soda.  They also sold peanut butter flavour but that would taste awful.

Whataburger – or what a waste of a cow or two

After grazing on deep fried beer, corn dogs and other specialities at the Texas State Fair yesterday, we thought we better start today off healthy… and there is nothing more Texan than Whataburger, home of the patty melt.

Cowboy Town – Yee Ha

We are in the historic Stockyards District of Fort Worth Texas.  Heaps of fun with a few long horn cows, horses and lots of cowboy action.

Who shot JFK?

It wasn’t only JR that was shot in Dallas,  President Kennedy coped it here too.  We saw the car in the Henry Ford in Detroit, his grave in Washington, now the scene of his death.  Unfortunately no photography was allowed from the the famous window on the 6th floor of the book depository.  The museum was very interesting, and no mater what happened wether it was as it probably was or some sort of exotic far fetched conspiracy theory one thing is for sure there was lots of shoddy details and investigations that didn’t bring out the truth.  Even things as simple as the doctors report on the body, he through his original report away because it had blood on it and then wrote a new one some time later from memory.. some say the bullet went through his head,, but the doctor recalls through his chest.. no one will ever know…

Some long horns

This great piece of art is pretty impressive, there are dozens of long horn cattle and some cowboys.  A stunning vision as you enter the city.

The Fairmont Dallas

Our hotel.. gee this is flash.. the room is monstrous,, 2 huge beds a walk in storage room, arm chairs and amazing view.  Been in a few of their hotels like Dubai and Canada, but this one takes the cake.    Not only do we have cow skin on the doors the toiletries have my name printed on them, so the must be only for me… to bad Gary go get your own.. teach you from stealing them from the last place.

Dallas

The Dallas skyline is pretty impressive a mix of old and new with some very iconic architecture.  The city is really on a business district there is not much in the way of shops or other things we have in our major cities.

The Lone Star Capital

The Capitol building is enormous and was basically built as the parliament for the confederates. It’s been restored over past 5 years and it is stunning. The huge dome is one of the flashiest pieces of architecture I’ve ever seen.  We saw George W’s office, he was governor here before becoming pres before the guy they got now.
