Stuttgart main

A quick freshen up and its back on the train not before stopping for a curry worst and beer along the way. Then its explore the city. Huge wide carless streets packed with shopping and miles of outdoor cafes. Its pretty nice. There’s a great mix of old and new architecture and there is plenty of parklands and gardens along the strip which must be 2 kilometres long. We find a German Beer hall for afternoon tea and a bit of relax. Before a bit more walking, a few more beers and a tasty feed at a brew pub, before calling it a day.

Schnitzel Time

It’s Sunday night our last night here in Frankfurt so schnitzel night. We find a nice little brew bar (other than the table of load (and I mean loud) and obnoxious E-mericans next to us, silly old guys who were all showing off to each other on how many bears they had shot and how many beers they were going to drink – 4 managed a half litre while the hero did a litre- its not like that bud light man! Anyway they left and we continued the festivities with very tasty schnitzels and beers.

Midnight Oil in Mainz

We head up to what was an old fort and castle grounds for Midnight Oil. They only are doing 2 small pub shows in Australia and the Big Bash in Birdsville, The rest of the dates are in Europe so it made sense to come here. Fantastic atmosphere with about 2-3000 people. Beer tents, sausage tens and a fun festive laid back atmosphere amongst the huge trees and the heritage buildings. The show didn’t disappoint with a great selections of 30+ years of music and they were as fresh as ever, with the Germans really getting into them.

A sausage for lunch

We find a nice shady spot overlooking the river near in a beer garden near our hotel and enjoy a few beers, a very tasty sausage and a pretzel while watching the boats sail along the river. Its a beautiful day around 25 and the beer our lunch is very delicious. Food prices good, beer seems to be the same price everywhere from pub to somewhere fancy and a little cheaper when converted back to $A. Sausages were 3 euro so about $5 and pretzel 1.5 euro.. So things not too bad.

Mainz

We leave Frankfurt and catch the train for the half an hour or so trip to Mainz. Passing the huge Opel factory and some interesting rural areas.
This town looks around Geelong size, and there are lots of narrow curvy streets with some amazing architecture. We come across a huge street market with thousands of people enjoying food, beer and wine, and its only 11AM.

Festive fun in Frankfurt

We stumble across a huge food and wine festival with thousands enjoying a beautiful night in front of the magnificent opera house. The beer was delicious only problem they didn’t seem to have toilets. There were none, don’t know what people were doing…They must have beens one where as no one was using the park. We had to leave after a few beers and find a pub, to have more beer and loose some before we exploded.

Let the fun begin

We arrive in Frankfurt pretty fresh, the flight from Doha was only about 6 hours we had a few beers on the plane but forgot to check the time, the first one was abut 8 AM, we were a bit embarrassed as it was served with breakfast. But the guy a few rows back was into the whiskey – so all good.

It’s a warm and sunny day here, we catch the train to city, get our room and hit the streets for some site, sausage and a few beers.

Beary nice airport

Fist stop Doha, its just up from Dubai in the Arababian Gulf and just across to the water from our friends in Iran. The airport is spectacular, brand new, 5 star luxury and huge. The lounge stretches 150 meteres with a water feature bigger than a house block and restaurants, showers and even beds. The main terminal is wall to wall luxury shops, exotic cars, gold stores and video walls with a giant yellow teddy bear as its centre feature.

Nice Ride

We jump aboard Qatar’s A380 for the ride to Sausage land. Things are pretty plush and comfortable on the upper deck and the food and service is second to none, they really did a great job. The plane had a cool bar up the back where you could kick back and enjoy some cold beers and tasty treats. No one else seemed to know it was there so we made a point of enjoying the hospitality.
