If things weren’t amazing enough during the day, when the sun came down and the lights came on around the park things looked spectacular.

Everyone loves a parade, and this was a great one featuring characters from Pixar’s biggest movies. There was Cars, Finding Nemo, A Bugs Life, The Advengers and the crowd favorite Toy Story.

The centerpiece of Disney California Adventure is Pleasure pier a tribute to the amusement piers that dot its coast like Santa Monica Pier. This are had all the favorites, a huge ferris wheel, great rollercoaster and a lot of seaside like attractions. The big ticket item was the Toy Story arcade ride, here you got on board a little trolly and went around a course of 3D arcade games where you shot targets, it was a lot of fun, especially with the characters jumping out of the 3D screens, my favorite was Rex the dinosaur, then again that pig was pretty funny.

This place is incredible, Disney is reported to have spent 1.1 BILLION dollars (yes billion) on this brand new world and you can see every cent. The details are amazing so accurate to the movie. The highlight of the area is the huge canyon backdrop that spans a few hundred metres wide and would be 50 -60 metres high. It houses the area’s major ride. The ride puts you in a car and you go through all the mechanical shops and stores in the movie until your car is ready to race, then you match up with another vehicle full of people and do a high speed lap around a canyon circuit. It is breathtaking, and best of all we got a second go for some reason so winners!. We got on early on this ride so the queue wasn’t too bad but later in the day it got to a 90 – 100 minute wait. But im sure everyone who rode it would have said the wait was worth it. Its hard to imagine when we visited Disneyland last – this entire park was a flat carpark. (We took a video on the ride and will publish that when we get back, your you can view it now on our facebook)

This area was all giant sized so everyone felt as big as bugs. Huge rocks, grass and flowers, the toilets were even made to look like a giant box of cereal.

This was a pretty cool ride although probably tailored to a younger audience without too many bumps or jolts. You journey through the world of Monsters inc, one highlight too dark to take photos with was going through the factory where all the doors zoom around. Outside the attraction Sully was there to greet visitors.

Our first taste of Disney was the fun Muppets 3D, set in a very authentic Muppet theatre it contained all the stupidity you expect, with dump jokes from Fozzie, crazy stunts from Gonzo, Sam the Eagle being outraged and Miss Piggy being her usual diva self. Some of the characters were live including the two old guys in the balcony and the penguin orchestra while the the others had fun on 3D. There were cannons, water squirts and plenty of other fun stuff going down.

We finish of our first day of our Californian coastal drive at a small seaside village called Morro Bay. The town had an enormous rock just of the shoreline that you could drive up to it was pretty stunning. There wasn’t too much in the town other than a few seaside dining establishments and plenty of fishing facilities.

We headed down the scenic coast and arrived at Monterey, once a fishing village but now one of the coast’s biggest tourist towns. There was a huge squid port with plenty of attractions and shops selling every conceivable souvineer. There were plenty of seals and even some otters basking in the sun.
