2014 St Patrick’s Day around Geelong

Geelong loves a celebration and celebrating all things Irish on St Patrick’s Day has long been a highlight. Put on your green, find that silly Guinness hat you bought years ago and get along to one of the pubs or events and join in the celebrations of this fun day.

The Elephant and Castle
The Elephant and Castle in East Geelong is a tradition on St Patrick’s Day and draws a massive crowd who enjoy a wonderful day of all things Irish. Like always the dark and creamy Guinness and delicious Kilkenny are sure to be the favorites choice of the day. The festivities start at 11:00 AM and run through until about 11:00PM , and best thing is if you arrive before 6:00 PM entry is free. Irish Murpy
West Geelong’s Irish Murphy’s will host a fun celebration for St Patrick’s Day and it will be their last day of trading before transforming into a new venue called GIN & CO supper club. So there is two reasons to celebrate with a nice frothy Guinness or two, St Pat’s Day and the end of an era. For more information www.irishmurphysgeelong.com.au

St Patrick’s Day Ball
The Geelong Irish Society is celebrating their homeland’s most important day with a St Patrick’s Day Ball. This ball celebrates 50 years of the society and will be held at the Australian Croatian Hall in North Geelong on Saturday the 15th of March. They have some tremendous entertainment including Zeon, special guest from ‘The Voice” Imogen Brough and the Celtic Thunder Trio. The St Patrick’s Day Cup
The Geelong Racecourse will host the St Patrick’s Day Cup on Saturday the 15th of March. The main cup race is a 1400 metre event and will attract some great horses and riders. The day will feature plenty of fun including a live band and Fashions on the Field event hosted by Paula Kontelj. The club is offering plenty of different packages including fine dining and marquee access, or you can just come along and have a picnic on the lush lawns overlooking the track.

St Patrick’s School – Irish Folk Festival
This is a marvelous family event that should not be missed. St Patrick’s School in West Geelong put on an amazing day of Irish fun every St Patrick’s day weekend. This year the event will be held on Sunday the 16th and looks like being the best yet. Come along to see Paddy the Leprechaun and enjoy some of the awesome entertainment performing throughout the day. The whole school grounds will be transformed into a giant festival with food, rides, markets and plenty of fun activities including the traditional leprechaun drop where some lucky visitor can take home a huge cash prize.  UPDATE: See some pics from this great day on our Facebook page.
