2017 Ironman 70.3 Geelong

The Ironman 70.3 series returns to the magnificent Geelong waterfront for 2017 on the weekend of the 17th – 19th of February with the main race taking place on Sunday the 19th.

Friday evening will see the huge expo site open on Steampacket Gardens. This expo will house the official merchandise stall, check-in area and information booth and presentation area for the event.

Saturday sees the kids battling it out with th Ironkids event taking place at Eastern Beach. The expo hub at Steampacket Gardens will host briefings and a pro panel for spectators to the event.

Sunday’s big race day begins at 5:45 AM with the first legs of the event beginning at 7:00 AM with the start of the Ironman 70.3 Geelong Male’s race followed by the Female race 2 minutes later at Eastern Beach. This is followed by the start of the Geelong Age Group Wave from 7:10 AM. The men’s race is expected to finish around 10:45 AM with the Women’s at 11:20 AM.

Race presentations will take place on Steampacket Gardens at the Expo and begin at 3:45 PM with the Ironman 70.3 World Championship Roll Down Ceremony taking place shortly after at 4:30 PM.

For spectators there are plenty of great vantage points to see the Ironman event. Cycling will take place along Richie Boulevard, Eastern Park and along Portarlington Road. While the waterfront between Eastern Beach and the Expo site on Steampacket Gardens will have plenty of great places to catch the running and action in the water.

Many local roads around the city and surrounding suburbs will be closed or offer limited passage, including much of the Geelong Waterfront precinct, Portarlington Road, Ryrie Street and areas around the Botanical Gardens so please check local newspapers or the City of Greater Geelong website for more information and seek alternative routes.
