Mother’s Day Classic
Sunday May 11th 2014
Come and support the fight against breast cancer on Mother’s Day with either a 4 or 8 KM walk or run around Eastern Beach Reserve and the magnificent Geelong waterfront. The Mother’s Day Classic kicks off at 7:00 AM and registrations are open. You can register as an individual or event form a team so round up the family and a few friends. There will be food, entertainment and lots of activities for the kid at Eastern Beach plus a warm up aerobics session to get you ready for the race. Annie
Dates between Friday 2nd May – Saturday 10th May 2014
Annie is one great and loved Broadway Musicals, based upon the comic strip of Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray the stage show has virtually ran continuously around the world since is Broadway debut in 1977. It has won countless awards and sprung some great songs like Tomorrow and Hard Knock Life. The Geelong Lyric Theatre Society is presenting Annie for the Geelong audience with six special shows on the 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, and two on the 10th of May. Annie will be played by Tayla Gartner and Della McBurney and the hard hearted old matron Miss Hannigan will be played by Davina Smith Crowley. It will be a wonderful show and will no doubt introduce a whole new generation to this truly wonderful musical. This show plays GPAC’s Playhouse theatre for tickets and info visit www.gpac.org.au

 

Dragon
Friday 9th of May 2014
One of Australasia’s legendary bands Dragon are coming to Geelong in May and playing the Drama Theatre at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre. Dragon rose to fame in the mid 1970’s after moving to Australia from across the ditch in New Zealand. With their lead singer Marc Hunter they went onto becoming one of the biggest bands of the 70’s and early 80’s, with songs like April Sun in Cuba, Rain and Are you old enough. Sadly Mark is no longer with us, but the band had continued and are currently on a tour called the Trilogy Tour where they will play three key eras of their 40 plus year career. The Young Years of the 70’s, The Glory Years of the 80’s and 90’s and the Phoenix, which covers their more recent years.
Night Cinema – Pilot
Friday 9th of May 2014
The multi-story civic carpark opposite Geelong’s town hall will host a a pilot moonlight cinema in readiness for the main event on the Saturday night. The Friday night will run between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM screening a looped series of short films running for about an hour. The evening is free but space is limited so get there early.

 

Night Cinema
Saturday 10th of May 2014
The multi-story civic carpark opposite Geelong’s town hall will host a a moonlight cinema Featuring legendary Australian singer songwriter Paul Kelly’s film Stories of Me. The event can cater for 100 guests so book early to avoid disappointment. There will be tasty food from Diversitat’s Wholefood Cafe and the Guy’s from Odyssey Tavern at Mt Duneed will be pouring some delicious craft beers.

 

Boy and Bear
Saturday 10th May 2014
One of Australia’s favourite indi rock folk outfits Boy and Bear are returning to Geelong in a huge show at Costa Hall at Deakin’s Waterfront Campus. The band has been a favourite for Triple J listeners and scored a no 5 on the Hottest 100 for their cover of the Crowded House classic Fall at your Fee. In 2011 won five ARIA awards including Best Group, Album of the Year for Moonfire and Best Breakthrough single for Feeding Line. The band is on their Boy and Bear 2014 Tour that has taken in Europe, the US and even the SXSW festival in Austin Texas, Their Australian leg begins in Mackay in Queensland before heading right around the country during April and May and stopping in on Geelong. They will showcasing songs from their Harlequin Dream album that debuted at No 1 on the ARIA chart recently.

 

Geelong Bay City Swap Meet
Saturday 10th May 2014
The Western District Historic Vehicle Club is putting on their annual Geelong Bay City Swap Meet at the Geelong Showgrounds in what is the region’s biggest trash or treasure. Get there for the 7:00 AM start to be sure to find the treasure, and there will be plenty of it, car parts, a restorer’s dream, collectables, DYI projects, and a wide range of interesting items. There will also be a display of special interest vehicles so it should make for a fun day.

 

2014 NABBA WFF Conquest Classic
Saturday 10th of May 2014
The Sphinx Hotel in North Geelong will host an amazing body building event in what is a stepping stone to the NABBA World Championships and WFF Universe Championships. Some of the most tones athletes will compete in this event that starts at 12:00 noon. If you have the body to compete registrations are open until the 3rd of May and you could win $1000.
