Bethany Film Festival – Barfi!
GPAC’s Playhouse Theatre is the venue for a fantastic Indian film titled Barfi!. This film with English subtitles follows three young people as they learn that love can neither be defined nor contained by a society. It is a warm hearted tale of selfless love and about finding happiness in the smallest things in life. This film is India’s official entry for the 85th Academy Awards, Best foreign Language Film Category and stars Randir Kappr, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz.

Kylie Minogue in Geelong
Pop superstar Kylie Minogue and Geelong’s Johnny Rollins from The Voice Australia will be making an appearance in Geelong on Wednesday. They will be at The Pier on Cunningham Pier from 1:30 PM. Its sure to be massive.

Soweto Gospel Choir
The Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir will be in Geelong Wednesday for an amazing performance of incredible music at the Playhouse Theatre in GPAC. This choir has played with the whos who of music including U2, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion and even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Last year they were invited to commemorate Nelson Mandela in an amazing memorial service, a man they had performed to many times in his life. Geelong is lucky enough to have this amazing choir play for us in what is about the half way mark of their 47 city Australian tour.

Food Trucks in the Mall
The Geelong Mall will host the second of three Food Truck days where 10 food trucks will be offering a amazing array of international and fusion street food. Ten food trucks are expected for the event that spans the next two Friday lunch times. There will be entertainment, fun and games for the kids and plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere and food on offer. Last week saw an estimated 2000 people enjoy the lunchtime event, this week might even be bigger.

Sun Rising – the songs that made Memphis
GPAC’s Drama Theatre will be belting out the classics of rock n roll when the Sun Rising – Songs that Made Memphis comes to town. This amazing show plays homage to the greats of music including Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and the king of rock n roll himself Elvis Presley. The show will relieve some of the golden days of recording and performing at the iconic Sun Studios in Beale Street Memphis.

Barwon Heads Film Festival
The Barwon Heads Film Society is holding two special days of film with the highlight being a special opening of the festival by Academy Award winning director Adam Elliot. Adam will also introduce his magnificent and charming short film Mary and Max. Saturday will see screenings of several wonderful short films starting at 11:00 AM, including Little Ripper that won the Best Doco at the St Kilda Film Festival in 2010 and Makover the runner up to Tropfest last year. There are two other screening during the afternoon including Fallout a 2013 film directed by Lawerence Johnston and Primo Dacio directed by Sarah Vassilas dedicated to Barwon Heads couple Luigi and Concettina D’Amico who talk about their first kiss. St Joseph’s College Artisan Market
St Joseph’s College in Newtown is hosting a two day Artisan Market over the July 19 – 20 weekend. There will be some of the regions finest produce, artworks and home made items. Running from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, the market will be indoors and there is plenty of parking. Entry is by a gold coin donation.

Car enthusiasts will head to the Home Maker Centre at Bunnings Waurn Ponds for the third instalment in the very successful car enthusiasts meet up. This event is huge, hundreds of people have attended the first two events with an amazing array of vehicles on show. There are cars from all eras, some very unique and others stock standard, it’s all about showing them off and enjoying a night with people who love cars in a family friendly atmosphere

Growing Winchelsea Town Picnic
Winchelsea is one of the thriving townships in our region and to celebrate and talk about the future of the town a picnic has been planned at the heritage listed Barwon Park Mansion. This fun day is a chance for locals to see what’s happening, what is going to happen and help plan the future for Winchelsea. The lunch time event kicks off at 10:30AM and goes through until about 1:00 PM. There will food and lots of fun and interesting activities for all.

Osbourne House Makers and Growers Market
The magnificient Osbourne House in Rippleside North Geelong hosts another of their wonderful Makers and Growers Markets. This market is one of the region’s best with a fantastic range of fresh and organic food, crafts, gift, plants and much more. The market starts at 9:00AM and can be found in Swinburne Street off the Melbourne Road.

Drawing with artist Rona Green
The Geelong Gallery is giving people the special opportunity to sketch under the guidance of renowned artist Rona Green. Rona, born and bred in Geelong is well known for pictures of peculiar creatures that take on a bit of a human appearance and are usually of misfits or outcasts. Rosa’s works are part of the collections of the Geelong Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia to name only two. The class starts at 2:00 PM and goes through until 4:00 PM, so bring your sketchbooks and pencils for a wonderful afternoon of art at the Geelong Gallery. No bookings are requires and everyone is welcome to this great fantastic event.
