Neil Finn – The Dizzy Heights Tour
Tuesday 11th March 2014
Neil Finn is one of Australiasia’s most popular artists, both in his bands Spilt Enz, Crowded House and as a solo artist. His new album Dizzy Heights has just been released and he is coming to Geelong to play songs from it and some of the biggest hits from the past few decades. Accompanying Neil on his Australian tour is Utah based rock and folk singer Johsua James who has just launched his album “From the top of Willamette Mountain. Karingal Karnivale
Friday 14th March 2014
Karingal House on Riverview Terrace in Belmont overlooking the Barwon River will host the 2014 Karingal Karnivale. This twilight event will be fundraiser for this important community organisation and will feature a great evening of fun and activities. There will be market stalls and some amazing food and wine. The kids will have a ball wiht jumping castles, face painting, and a whole kid zone complete with carnival rides. Over 2000 are expected to attend the event which starts at 4:00 PM and goes through until about 8:00PM, the event asks for a small gold coin donation. Pete Murray

Aria winning artist Pete Murray plays the Wool Exchange to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his number one smash album Feeler. the album has been recently re-mastered at the Abbey Road Studios. Murray plays two shows in the region this week with a Live on the Lawn gig scheduled for Werribee Park on the 16th of March before heading up the east coast and top end of Australia then onto Singapore in May.  For more gigs in Geelong be sure to see our live music calendar.

 

The Ballad of the Plague Doctor

The Geelong Gaol will be creepier than ever with this evening of ultimate horror story telling. Presented by the Laudanium Project and back by popular demand, these series of stories set during London’s hideous Black Plague are sure to send icy shivers down everyone’s spine. This Halloween, Alphonse Cheese-Probert and Lady Sophronia Lick-Penny of The Laudanum Project will be bringing their third and latest theatrical outrage, Ballad Of The Plague Doctor to life within the walls of the infamous Ararat Lunatic Asylum. For one night only, psychodrama and gut wrenching imagery will fuse inside the dilapidated old chapel on the grounds of the asylum, as elaborate poetry and nightmarish soundscapes recreate the final days of Doctor Marrok Corvus Rapere, Medieval London’s first Community Plague Doctor. South Geelong Primary School Carnival
Friday 14th of March 2014
The South Geelong Primary School in Yarra Street will host its annual Carnival on the 14th of March. This wonderful event starts at 4:00 PM and goes through until 8:00 PM when their growns transform into a giant festival. There will be delicious food and drink, a giant market selling all sorts of interesting items, rides and attractions for the kids and some wonderful entertainment. World’s Longest Lunch
Friday 14th March 2014
The lush lawns of the magnificent Eastern Beach will host the World’s Longest Lunch. Here guest will be treated to a delicious four course meal featuring the best of local produce from our region matched with some amazing local wines. The event is a fund raiser for the Geelong Hospital Appeal and is unfortunately for those who haven’t secured a ticket yet, sold out.
Queenscliff Harbour is also hosting a Worlds Longest Lunch showcasing some of the delicious foods and wines from the Bellarine, but this also is sold out.

 

Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th March 2014
Head of the Schoolgirls Rowing Regatta
The Barwon River becomes the host of the biggest single gender rowing regatta in the Southern Hemisphere when some 1200 athletes ascend on the river for the Head of the Schoolgirls Rowing Regatta. Dozens of schools from all over Victoria and further afield are coming to Geelong for this huge event. There are close to 400 races ranging in length of 1000 metres to 1500 meters along the Barwon. The river banks offer fantastic viewing for spectators and the city side will feature a huge expo with food, places to relax and assorted stalls. Geelong Relay for Life
Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th March 2014
The Cancer Council of Victoria is holding the Geelong leg of their Relay for Life at the Geelong Showgrounds this weekend. Hundreds are expected to join in to remember survivors and loved ones lost from the terrible effects of cancer. The race kicks off just before lunch time on Saturday and runs over night until lunch time on Sunday Good luck to all those participating. Vintage By the Sea-The Third Way We Wear Vintage Fashion Fair

The Geelong West Town hall will host two hundred years of vintage, retro, antique and designer clothing and accessories for sale. Thousands of items of clothing from ten local and interstate dealers plus retro and vintage homewares and collectibles for sale.

 

Colac Kana Festival
Saturday 15th of March 2014
This year the Colac Kana Festival is back for their 57th annual event and the them of the biggest day in town is “What I want to be when I grow up”. The day will kick of with a colourful and vibrant parade down Murray Street, the main street followed by a huge festival in Memorial Square. There will be peformances all afternoon, market stalls, food, classic cars and plenty of fun for the whole family. Colac is only an hour’s drive from central Geelong so the festival is in easy reach.

 

Irish Folk Festival
Sunday 16th of March 2014
St Patrick’s Primary School in West Geelong will put on their annual Irish Folk Festival to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. The family fun day is a great celebration of all things Irish with plenty of fun for young and old. There will be market stalls, lots of tasty food including some Irish treats, and plenty of fun and games. The main oval at the school will be transformed into a giant carnival with attractions, rides and performances. St Patrick’s Day Ball
Saturday 15th of March
The Geelong Irish Society is celebrating their homeland’s most important day with a St Patricks Day Ball. This ball celebrates 50 years of the society and will be held at the Australian Croatian Hall in North Geelong. They have some tremendous entertainment including Zeon, special guest from ‘The Voice” Imogen Brough and the Celtic Thunder Trio. The St Patrick’s Day Cup
Saturday 15th of March
The Geelong Racecourse will host the St Patrick’s Day Cup with the main cup race being a 1400 metre event that will attract some great horses and riders. The day will feature plenty of fun including a live band and Fashions on the Field event hosted by Paula Kontelj. The club is offering plenty of different packages including fine dining and marquee access, or you can just come along and have a picnic on the lush lawns overlooking the track.

 

Little River Primary School Country Fair
Sunday 16th of March 2014
This event will be held in the quaint rural township of Little River to the north of our city. The event taking place between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM will feature plenty of family fun for all. There will be a side show alley, dancing, bagpipers, a silent auction and even a animal farm. Come hungry as there will be a delicious bbq running all day and some of the best scones with cream and jam at the Devonshire Tea. The Sweet
Sunday 16th of March 2014
One of the biggest bands to come out of the UK during the seventies the Sweet are coming to Geelong in their Satisfaction Guaranteed-the Hits tour. The band known for their world wide smash hits like Ballroom Blitz, Peppermint Twist and Fox on the Run have not toured Australia for ten years and will play the Playhouse Theatre at GPAC. The band formed in 1968 and in their 45 odd years have sold around fifty million records, had thirteen top 20 hits in the 70s alone and and performed to millions all around the world. Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea
Friday 14th – Sunday 16th of March 2014
The annual Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea is back for 2014 on the weekend of the 14th – 16th of March. The major day is the Sunday when the Barwon Heads foreshore comes alive with a huge market place, music food and fun for all. The highlight of the event is the fun rubber duck race, where hundreds of yellow duckies are dropped into the Barwon River for a race to win $2000. more info   photo gallery
