Sporting Bet Geelong Cup
The social event of the year, the Geelong Cup is back for 2014. This annual event dating back to 1872 is one of the major races in the Spring Carnival leading up to the Melbourne Cup. The main race is a 2400 metre Group 3 Thoroughbred race that has spawned several Melbourne Cup winners in the past including Media Puzzle, Americain and Dunaden. The completion isn’t only on the race course, of the racecourse fashion’s on the field is the other hotly contested event when some of the most beautifully dressed men and women battle it out for some great prizes. Victorian State Collectibles and Bottle Show
The Geelong Showground’s Agricultural Hall will host the Geelong Bottle’s and Collectibles Club Inc.s Collectibles and bottle show. The show is expected to attract over 100 tables of display and stalls from private collectors and dealers. There will be an amazing array of items and many precious items that are rarely seen.

Aboriginal Comedy Night
THe Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre on Torquay Road in Grovedale are hosting a fantastic night of comedy. Open House Geelong
After the a hugely successful event last year Open House Geelong is back for 2014 with a host of interesting sites and buildings open to the public. The National Wool Museum, Transport Accident Commission, Deakin University, Geelong Court Complex, Osborne House, the Geelong Maritime Museum and Vietnam Veterans Association are some of the places you can visit free. Walk Together
Diversitat are hosting the Geelong leg of the Walk Together celebration that is being held all around Australia to celebrate an Australia of Diversity. THe walk takes place from the Pulse 94.7 Studios in Little Ryrie Street at 1:00 PM and will finish at Johnstone Park. There will be guest speakers, photography exhibitions, artist performing and lots of fun and celebration.

Freshwater Creek Fair
The Steiner School at Freshwater Creek is holding their annual Spring Fair and open day, and it looks like it will be a fantastic day. There will be live music, plenty of market stalls including hand made crafts, food and even delicious home made lemonade and cakes. Come hungry as there will be a sausage sizzle and lots of tasty treats. The day kicks off at 10:00 AM and goes through until 3:00 PM.

Art Exhibition by Brian McKinnon
Local Geelong West Artist Brian McKinnon will be holding a special exhibition at the Strasse Bar at the Barking Dog between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Friday in association with the Geelong West Neighbourhood House. Brian has exhibited throughout Australia and Europe. His work has been collected by numerous institutions and he has win many awards, including the Gumbri White Dove Acquisitive Award for Victorian Indigenous artists. Food and drink can be purchased.
