We are only about nine weeks into 2013 and the Geelong region has seen some magnificent auto events including the All Ford Day, Queenscliff Rod Run, Torquay Motorshow and All Holden Day. Well the quality continues with the Chryslers by the Bay show and shine at the Geelong Grammar School on the 10th of March.

The Chryslers by the Bay event has been a staple automotive event on the Geelong calendar for 17 years and is hosted by the Bay City Chrysler Club.

The event attracts one of the best displays of Chrysler automobiles held anywhere in Australia with all eras of the huge American Auto manufacture being represented from the vintage Dodges, Plymouths and Chryslers to the latest offering from Detroit including the 300C and Jeeps.

Some of the highlights of the day are the extravagances of fifties Chrysler design, a time where practicality made way for exotic styling of huge fins, flaps and plenty of chrome bling. Many of the vehicles Chrysler produced during this period are now considered pieces of art as much as cars.

The muscle cars are also a favourite of the event with Road Runners, Stingrays, Barracudas and the legendary Charger RT making up a large contingent of the display.

The show always features many Australian family classics including the Valliants of the sixties and seventies, and there might even be a few Mitsubishi Sigma’s and Colts that wore the Chrysler badge in the final years of their manufacturing in this country.

The lush lawns of the Geelong Grammar School at North Shore offer a beautiful setting for this event also serves as a great family picnic area on the day. The event also features several food, cars swap and spares stalls and a few auto related trade stalls.
